Global Reach; Boeing's Classic Tanker Transport
One of aviation's greatest and longest lived military aircraft is the newest to be featured here; the Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker. This particular machine was photographed at RNZAF Base Ohakea in February this year, as it was providing support for the United States Air Force contingent at the RNZAF's 80th anniversary airshow. Beautiful weather mean't blue skies throughout the day, which is great for airshows, but a little difficult to photograph an all-over matt grey military jet of the size of the tanker, so apologies if some of the images are a little washed out; reducing the contrast means that some of the juicy detail hiding in the shadows is revealed. Some of us were also in for a treat, too; although the aircraft was not open to the public throughout the day, after the airshow had officially ended I received a text from colleagues attending the show advising me to hurry to the aircraft, as people were being let inside it.
